A groundbreaking ceremony for the Independent Electrical Contractors Southern New Mexico location will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 8881 Trigg Loop in the Las Cruces Innovation and Industrial Park (just over a mile away from the Las Cruces International Airport).

The City of Las Cruces Economic Development team partnered with the Southern New Mexico Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc. through shared workforce development efforts, financial support, and business expansion assistance. This partnership has grown to position IEC for growth in Southern New Mexico. A new 8,400 square-foot facility will be developed in the Las Cruces Innovation and Industrial Park. The building is expected to include offices, conference rooms, vocational labs, and a large open classroom designed to support hands-on electrical apprenticeship and workforce training programs

Scheduled speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony include Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez; Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance President and CEO, Davin Lopez; Local IEC President Tim Shaffstall; National IEC President Don Sharkey; and NAI First Valley Associate Broker Preston Williams.

The groundbreaking is open to media and invited guests only due to limited parking. This event will be livestreamed on the City’s YouTube channel, Youtube.com/@lascrucesgov.

Media representatives are invited to attend and cover the event.
