
The Las Cruces Fire Department technical rescue team responded alongside multiple agencies to assist in a mountain rescue of an injured hiker at Aguirre Springs Sunday morning. The call came in about 10 a.m. Sunday, July 12.
Crews responded to the Aguirre Springs trail and learned the hiker had ascended approximately 1,000 ft off the trail into a gully and received an injury preventing the hiker from being able to descend.
Multiple Search and Rescue parties worked in conjunction to assist the hiker while providing medical care. Due to terrain, the total rescue time on the mountain was approximately 12 hours and 20 minutes.
Three firefighters were reported injured from this rescue.
