Las Cruces police have apprehended and charged two teenagers suspected in an overnight crime spree that resulted in three stolen vehicles and burglary attempts – one successful – of three cannabis shops.

The two boys, ages 16 and 17, are each charged with multiple offenses: two counts of attempted commercial burglary, one count of non-residential burglary, three counts of criminal damage to property, one count of larceny, one count of possession of a stolen vehicle and seven counts of conspiracy.

About 2 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026, police were initially dispatched to the report of the attempted burglary at Pecos Valley Production, a cannabis shop, on north Roadrunner Parkway.

The second attempted burglary, which proved to be successful, was at Top Crop on east Lohman Avenue. There, the juveniles forcefully gained entry and burglarized the business.

The third attempted burglary was at Pecos Valley Production on south Locust Street. Both Pecos Valley burglary attempts were thwarted by security bars that prevented the entry into those stores.

Investigators believe the teenagers stole at least three Hyundai vehicles during the night and tried to gain access to a fourth. One of the vehicles, a Hyundai Santa Fe was located, abandoned, near Pecos Street and Foster. Officers established a perimeter and, with the use of a K-9 Unit and drone, were able to locate and detain the two teenagers.

Merchandise from Top Crop was found in the vehicle and in two backpacks near where the teens were apprehended.

Police are continuing their investigation. Additional charges are possible.
