The Las Cruces Police Department has completed a pledge to enhance trust and collaboration between police and the community it serves.

The pledge is part of an initiative called the Trust Building Campaign that was started by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the world’s largest and most influential professional association for police leaders.

As part of the campaign, LCPD prioritized officer wellness, implemented trauma-informed response training, and increased opportunities for public input through surveys, town hall meetings, and community outreach events. These initiatives have helped build stronger relationships between officers and the community while promoting safer and more effective policing practices.

“The Trust Building Campaign has allowed our department to take a comprehensive look at how we serve our community and identify opportunities to grow,” said Chief Jeremy Story. “By focusing on transparency, accountability and meaningful engagement, we have strengthened the trust placed in us and reinforced our commitment to providing professional and respectful service to all.”

Through enhanced training, improved accountability systems, and expanded community partnerships, LCPD has continued to build a culture rooted in integrity, service and collaboration.

The Las Cruces Police Department remains committed to maintaining the progress it’s achieved and will continue to seek innovative ways to strengthen relationships with the community it serves.

LCPD received its Certificate of Completion from the International Association of Chiefs of Police on May 4, 2026.
