Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a fire that damaged a structure Wednesday afternoon on W. Organ Avenue.

Just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, firefighters responded to a call of a structure fire on the 800 block of W. Organ Avenue near the railroad tracks. There they encountered a small structure that had caught fire due to an initial exterior fire extending toward the building.

Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly but remained on scene for an extended period of time ensuring all smoldering areas of the structure were addressed.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
