City of Las Cruces Announces Richard Hanway as New Transit Director 

The City of Las Cruces announces the appointment of Richard Hanway to the position of Transit Director.

Hanway has nearly 30 years of experience in the transportation industry and a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He joined the City of Las Cruces in 2010 as a Bus Operator. He was promoted to Route Supervisor in 2014, followed by a quick advancement to Transit Manager in 2015. He also served as the Interim Fleet Administrator for several months before returning to the Transit department.

His efforts played a key role in securing a significant grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration, enabling the City to acquire five electric buses for its fleet in 2024, and six electric buses in 2025.
