Branigan Cultural Center is accepting proposals for exhibits with themes of cultural and historical significance relating to the Borderlands and the U.S. Southwest to be presented in calendar years 2027-2028. Exhibit proposal topics can be wide-ranging and address historic or contemporary issues. We invite submissions from formal and informal scholars, cultural heritage organizations, and artists (solo or group).

Proposals must be submitted via SurveyMonkey. More information and a link to the SurveyMonkey form can be found at the Las Cruces Museums website: https://lascruces.gov/opencalls. Applications must include a brief narrative of the exhibit theme; a statement by the scholar, artist, or group; 5-10 jpg or png images of proposed objects or artwork that will be displayed; and linear and/or square footage needs. Exhibitions typically run for a 12-16-week period. Incomplete or late proposals will not be accepted.

Previous exhibitions have included topical exhibits such as the workers and families that lived in the Stahmann Farm ranchos, historic photographs from the Ballard Photo Studio, and a multi-media examination of the impact of water on the Borderlands. Artistic exhibitions have included photographs of agave fields and the making of tequila, ceramics reflecting the wildlife of the Mesilla Valley, and photographs related to Día de los Muertos.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time, Friday, May 29, 2026. For more information, visit lascruces.gov/museums or email Jennifer McClung, Exhibit Curator, at [email protected].

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 N. Main St. and is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission charge.
