Las Cruces voters approved the issuance of $26 million in General Obligation bonds to support the renovation and expansion of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library.

In the election conducted Nov. 3, 2026, registered City voters approved the following GO Bond Question:

Shall the City of Las Cruces be authorized to issue General Obligation Bonds, payable from property taxes, in an amount up to $26,000,000 to acquire, plan, design, develop, construct, improve, renovate, modernize, automate, furnish and equip the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library?

Yes: 23,920 votes (69%)
No: 10,779 votes (31%)

The bond authorization will provide funding for significant upgrades to the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, helping modernize library facilities, enhance services, improve technology, and address the growing needs of the Las Cruces community. The facility will be completely renovated and expanded by approximately 20,000 square feet.

The approved bond will support continued investment in community resources and public infrastructure while enhancing educational, cultural, and technological opportunities for residents. The GO Bond approved by voters will not increase the City’s portion of property taxes.

The City will keep residents informed about major project milestones and upcoming events throughout the duration of the project.
