Police Invite Reporters to ‘Real-to-Reel’ Workshop

The Las Cruces Police Department is inviting selected members of the community, elected officials and news media reporters to participate in a reality-based workshop that will provide a short educational block and test how they respond to various scenarios that officers might face in their day-to-day duties.

The Real-to-Reel Reality-Based Workshop will be held 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025.

“We’re working to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community by educating the public about our profession and its inherent dangers,” said LCPD Chief Jeremy Story. “The reality-based scenarios participants will face should give them a better perspective on how officers respond to real-life calls for service.”

Real-to-Reel scenarios will allow participants to see how they handle various scenarios such as action versus reaction, dealing with a suicidal individual or responding to a domestic call for service.

News media reporters are also encouraged to record their own session for broadcast or print.

LCPD will compile some of the video footage into a reel that will be shared on social media to better educate the public on the difficulties often faced by law enforcement.

News reporters interested in participating in the Real-to-Reel Reality-Based Workshop should RSVP no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, to Dan Trujillo, Public Information Officer, at [email protected]. Spaces are limited so early RSVPs are encouraged.
