ATF – the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – is now offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the June 2 fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Las Cruces.
The ATF reward is separate, and in addition, to the $2,000 reward that’s offered by Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces-Dona Ana County.
Las Cruces police have released a video and still images of the vehicle believed to be driven by the suspect in the shooting of 14-year-old Alejandro Roman who was a backseat passenger in a vehicle that was targeted by the driver of the suspect vehicle.
The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, near the intersection of Solano Drive and Spruce Avenue. Investigators believe the shooting was a result of road rage between occupants of the two vehicles.
Investigators believe the suspect, described as a male, was driving a white mid-size sport utility vehicle. Video of the vehicle can be seen on LCPD’s Facebook page. Police are hoping someone might recognize the vehicle or the person who was driving it on the evening of June 2.
It’s possible the suspect, the lone occupant of the SUV, may have changed his routine after the shooting. The suspect may have unexpectedly concealed the vehicle inside a garage, in a backyard or under a tarp after the shooting. The suspect may have also stopped driving the vehicle altogether to avoid being recognized.
Police also believe the suspect may have skipped work in the days after the shooting, left town, or inexplicably canceled plans with friends or relatives to avoid being in public.
He may also, uncharacteristically, be asking questions about the shooting or frequently checking social media for updates.
Anyone who recognizes these behaviors in a neighbor, coworker or person they know – and that person drives or has access to a vehicle like what’s described above – is asked to share information with investigators to help solve this crime.
