The Las Cruces Museum of Art is excited to announce two dynamic word-based events inspired by its new exhibition, Clyde Butcher: Lifeworks in Photography.
These events include a poetry workshop and an open mic event featuring poetry created during the workshop. The ekphrastic poetry workshop is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., and the open mic event is planned for Saturday, October 19, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both events will be led by members of El Paso’s Barbed Wire Open Mic Series (A BorderSenses Event).
Taking inspiration from Clyde Butcher’s dramatic black-and-white nature and landscape photographs, participants in the ekphrastic poetry workshop will create poetry and prose while surrounded by the artwork in the Museum of Art. There is no fee for the workshop, but registration is limited to twenty participants, ages 18 and up. To register, email Jennifer McClung at [email protected].
The open mic event will also take place in the museum gallery and will be open to anyone who wishes to participate. However, poetry workshop participants will be given priority to present their work. The open mic event is free and open to the public but is intended for adult audiences.
Clyde Butcher: Lifeworks in Photography was organized by Window of the Eye, Inc., and toured by Photographic Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles, CA. The exhibition will remain on view until December 28, 2024.
The museum is located at 491 N. Main St. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. There is no admission fee. The museum is accessible from Roadrunner Transit Route 1 Stop 1.
