The Las Cruces Police Department’s Traffic Unit issued 82 citations during a one-hour enforcement operation Thursday morning along north Main Street.

The 82 traffic citations included 37 for drivers exceeding the posted speed limit, 18 for no proof of insurance and 17 for not carrying proper registration.

Other citations were for miscellaneous traffic violations such as no driver’s license, using a cell phone while driving, and failing to stop at a red light or stop sign.

The traffic enforcement operation began at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, and lasted about one hour. The Las Cruces Police Department will likely hold similar traffic enforcement operations in the coming weeks.

Traffic Unit officers work as a team during special enforcement operations. Besides the special operations, Traffic officers have assigned districts where they patrol and enforce traffic laws. They also are the lead investigative unit for critical and fatal traffic crashes. Traffic officers normally patrol on motorcycles but can switch to marked units during inclement weather.
