Volunteers for Youth Sports

Parks and Recreation utilizes volunteer coaches in Youth Sports programs every year. The Coaching Volunteer Program is a rewarding way to spend time with your kids and their friends while helping them to learn sports skills from soccer, t-ball, football and basketball. Coaches are richly rewarded with the satisfaction they gain from working with kids in a team atmosphere

Coaching

Coaches come from different backgrounds and sports knowledge bases, just as the player’s skills and knowledge varies. We ensure that all teams have an excellent coaching staff that is dedicated to the philosophy of Athletes first, winning second. We strive to provide volunteers with proper training that reinforces positive coaching, sportsmanship, and player development.

Resources

For the safety of our participants, all volunteers are required to fill out an application and pass a background check. If you are interested in becoming a coach simply download both forms and bring them by Meerscheidt Recreation Center.

Officiating

The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation is actively recruiting sports officials in all sports for the Parks and Recreation leagues and tournaments. We are seeking dependable, experienced registered officials as well as individuals interested in getting into officiating for the first time. Officials are richly rewarded with the satisfaction they gain from working with kids in a team atmosphere!

For the safety of our participants, all volunteers are required to fill out an application and pass a background check. For additional information about officiating, please call 575-541-2563 or email our staff.

The Volunteer Network

The City’s Volunteer Network connects individuals age 18 and older to volunteer positions at more than 20 sites throughout the City of Las Cruces.

Our volunteers mentor youth in after-school programs, serve as museum guides, provide library services, and serve meals to seniors among many other things! Our team of over 250 volunteers expand and enhance the delivery of quality services to the Las Cruces community through meaningful volunteer engagement.

Volunteers enrolled in The Network receive free supplemental accident, liability, and automobile insurance while on the job and are invited to periodic volunteer appreciation events.
