GO Bond – Las Cruces Fire Station #9 Public Art Project
The City of Las Cruces Public Art program (LCPA) commissioned an artist to create a site-specific outdoor art piece to promote the forthcoming Fire Station #9. The criteria for the art piece was that it be evocative of the history ad ethos of the local firefighting community, added identity to the fire station and neighborhood, served as a focal point of the fire station, and was visible from several vantage points. It could be inspired by an original Las Cruces 1915 pumper that will be displayed in the fire station lobby.
The art piece that was recently installed by artist Christopher Fennell is all of that, and is now prominently installed in front corner of the new fire station lot. The sculpture’s lighting features will be visible once the construction of the facility is completed.
