Police Officer Speaking to Audience

Las Cruces police will host a Town Hall Meeting Sept. 12 to discuss how drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine are affecting the community.

The Town Hall Meeting begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, in Council Chambers at Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St. The meeting is anticipated to last about two hours.

Las Cruces Police Department Chief Jeremy Story will begin the Town Hall Meeting by presenting second-quarter 2024 crime statistics and how they compare to last year.

Athena Huckaby, a public health professional in drug policy and harm-reduction, and Kevin Renn, Drug Intelligence Officer with the New Mexico High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, will then join Story to discuss the increased use of fentanyl and methamphetamine in Las Cruces.

The meeting will serve as an opportunity for residents to connect with LCPD officials, gain insight into the topic, ask questions and contribute to the ongoing efforts to promote a safer community.

The Town Hall Meeting will be televised live on CLCTV, Comcast Cable channel 20-SD and 928-HD. The meeting will also be live streamed on the City’s YouTube channel and the Las Cruces Police Department’s Facebook page.
