Las Cruces Public Libraries is showing four classic movies from the 1980’s during its First Saturday Movie Marathon at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library.

The First Saturday Movie Marathon begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025. The movies, all free, will be shown in the Kiva Room on the first floor of Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave. on Roadrunner Transit Route 1.

The 10:30 a.m. movie is a 1983 classic about a girl whose 16th birthday is forgotten by her family. This movie is rated PG. The second movie, from 1985, is the story of five high schoolers who spend a Saturday together in detention. It will begin at 12:15 p.m. and is rated R. The third movie, rated PG-13, begins at 1:45 p.m. and stars Molly Ringwald in a pink dress. The Movie Marathon finale is a classic among classics, starring Matthew Broderick playing hooky from school with his girlfriend and best friend. This movie is rated PG-13 and starts at 3:30 p.m.

Movie-goers are welcome to bring light snacks. For movie titles, see the library’s online calendar of events.

Upcoming First Saturday Movie Marathons: In April, Las Cruces Public Libraries will celebrate the start of baseball season. In May, a trio of tornado movies will be shown in conjunction with the change of seasons.
