A 52-year-old woman was rescued by Las Cruces firefighters and transported to a local hospital Monday with potential life-threatening injuries.
About 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on the 1300 block of Bon Burt Lane. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered heavy smoke coming from the single-story duplex and learned from bystanders that a disabled woman was possibly trapped inside.
Firefighters simultaneously entered the home in search of the occupant and attacked the fire. Fire crews located the 52-year-old woman in a bathroom and immediately removed her from the burning structure.
The woman was provided initial medical care on scene and then transported to a local hospital. Her injuries are potentially life-threatening.
No other injuries were reported.
Fire crews brought the fire under control within 10 minutes.
The cause of the fire and damage estimates have yet to be determined.
