The City of Las Cruces’ Parks & Recreation and Public Works Departments have been working together to resolve light pole safety concerns at the Hadley Sports Complex and Apodaca Softball Fields as quickly as possible.
On March 10, 2025, the City announced the closure of the Hadley Sports Complex (which includes Harty, Paz, Ron Galla and Maag fields) and Apodaca softball fields to assess the safety concerns around the stability of the poles.
Upon assessment, it was determined that Ron Galla field did not need to have poles removed and replaced. This field is expected to open for normal operations on March 31, 2025. The poles at Maag Park have been removed and it will open for daytime play on March 31, 2025. Paz and Harty are still undergoing pole disposal and clean up. Those two fields are expected to open in the coming weeks for daytime play only.
Apodaca Softball Fields do not yet have a schedule for reopening as pole removal began this week.
Fields open for daytime play will have barrels placed over the location of removed poles. Those attending games or practices will be asked to avoid the area where the barrels are placed for obvious safety reasons.
Parks & Recreation will communicate with leagues to create schedules for field use in the coming months. As poles are replaced, fields will close intermittently. Work will be staggered to allow for access to the fields while remaining safe.
Apodaca Park baseball fields, Burn Lake soccer fields, High Noon fields 1-5, Provencio Van Damme fields and East Mesa Public Recreation Complex fields were not affected and have remained open.
