Las Cruces International Airport (LRU)
LRU now offers scheduled passenger air service to and from Albuquerque through Advanced Air! Book your flight now at AdvancedAirlines.com.
LRU is a thriving general aviation airport located off Interstate 10 about ten minutes west of downtown Las Cruces. The airport has three runways (including a precision instrument approach), two full fixed based operators, ample tie-down space, and plenty of room to grow.
LRU is an ideal location for general and corporate aviation as well as the development of aerospace and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) industry sectors.
If you are looking for interstate passenger air service, El Paso International Airport is just a 45-minute drive southeast from downtown Las Cruces.
The Model Collection of Rolf Mitchel
On display at LRU is a collection of about 60 models of historic planes and ships collected and assembled by Rolf Mitchel. Mr. Mitchel, a longtime resident of Las Cruces and former member of the Airport Advisory Board, donated the collection to the City in 2014. The collection, maintained by the Las Cruces Museum System, contains models of air and sea vessels of several historic battles, particularly those of World War II. The models can be viewed in the main airport terminal during regular operating hours.
ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN
The Las Cruces International Airport features a hands-on aircraft exploration center located in the Jim Bobs restaurant. This aviation center offers the public the opportunity to handle real aircraft components from retired aircraft to include engine parts, instrument panels, propellers, as well as coloring activities for children. The aviation center is free to enter and is open to the public during normal restaurant business hours. Check out the photo gallery here: /photo-gallery/las-cruces-airport-explore-area-photos/
