The City of Las Cruces provides many opportunities for citizens to be involved with their municipal government and to help improve their community for all of us. Volunteer Network
Join hundreds of volunteers to expand and enhance the delivery of quality services to the Las Cruces community through meaningful volunteer opportunities. The Volunteer Network connects you to more than 40 volunteer sites with the City of Las Cruces. Volunteers mentor youth, serve as museum guides, provide library services, and serve meals to seniors among many other things. Serving your community can inspire others to do the same. Be a leader. Volunteer for Youth Sports Programs
More than 500 volunteer coaches participate in the Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Sports programs every year. The Coaching Volunteer Program is a rewarding way to spend time with kids and their friends while helping them to learn sports skills from soccer, t-ball, football, and basketball. Coaches are richly rewarded with the satisfaction they gain from working with kids in a team atmosphere! For the safety of our participants, all volunteers are required to fill out an application and pass a background check. Volunteer for the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley
If you love working with animals, you’ll get the opportunity of a lifetime to gain or share your experience and skills as an Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley volunteer. Anyone interested in assisting the ASCMV with their life-saving mission to assist the dogs, cats and other animals who are part of our community, you can contact them for available volunteer positions.
Boards, Commissions & Committees
Help shape our City by serving on boards, commissions, and committees of the City Council. Anyone meeting the criteria and who wants to volunteer their time, knowledge and expertise to make a difference in their community are encouraged to file an application with the City Clerk’s Office. These boards, commissions,and committees have been established by City Charter, City Council or state law and serve a critical function in providing valuable information and service to the City Council and citizens. Duties of the boards, commissions and committees may include serving in an advisory capacity to the City Council, examining in-depth issues or making funding recommendations. The work of the volunteers assists the Council and contributes directly to the quality of life in Las Cruces.
Alert Citizen Program
Want to be more involved in your neighborhood or community? The City of Las Cruces has an active Alert Citizen Program that enables residents to pro-actively make a difference in their neighborhoods. Residents can do their part in helping improve our community by being alert and using the resources the City provides.
- When you see weeds as a problem on City property, report it to us through Ask Las Cruces.
- If you want to host a neighborhood meeting, contact the Community Engagement Office for more information.
- Do you want a Neighborhood Watch Program? Find out how at Neighborhood Watch Program.
- Are you concerned about speeders in your neighborhood? Contact the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program.
- If a street light goes out, jot down the number on the pole and report it and the street name to Ask Las Cruces.
- Participate in public input meetings whenever possible. Sign up for notifications to receive information about upcoming public meetings and events.
