Collections

The Las Cruces Museum System (LCMS) preserves over 13,000 objects that support the museum mission. Our permanent collections can be viewed online through our collections portal. The portal displays limited information about objects in the collections and is being updated constantly.

The portal also displays the LCMS objects on display at each museum and five online exhibits. Four of these exhibits were developed as part of our Luce Foundation-funded grant project exploring artists of the Borderlands. This is part of our ongoing efforts to expand access and provide as much information as possible about our collections to the public.

Researchers

The LCMS invites researchers to utilize the collections in their scholarly research. Please contact the Collections Manager at least 4 weeks prior to your proposed visit to discuss your research and associated objects. Photographs and reproductions of LCMS collections may be used with permission and proper citation.

Donations

The LCMS Collections Committee meets quarterly to discuss potential additions to the museum collection. If you would like to donate something to the collection, please contact the Collections Manager to set up a meeting to review the donation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Las Cruces Museum System (LCMS) Permanent Collection contains over 10,000 objects. Unfortunately, we simply do not have the gallery space to display every object! Exposure to light and temperature variations can damage to sensitive objects; many objects benefit from being stored in an environmentally controlled building.

The LCMS preserves objects not just for display on exhibit, but also for educational and research purposes. We do not accept donations with any conditions or stipulations, including display requirements.

At this time, the collections storage facility is not open to public tours or visitation.
