Students raising hands at a computer class

The Las Cruces Public Libraries is offering computer literacy classes – from managing files and digital images to using social media – during the month of November.

Las Cruces Public Libraries offer a variety of computer literacy classes throughout the month to help people become more comfortable using the technology. Classes range from basic skills such as how to properly use a mouse to more advanced Excel spreadsheet functions. Each class is independent of other classes and registration is not required. Attendees are encouraged to come early to ensure there is a laptop available for hands-on experience. Attendees can also bring their own laptop.

Classes for November 2024 include:

  • Manage Your Files and Digital Pictures: Monday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon in Meeting Room 3 at Munson Senior Center. Students will learn how to manage their digital files, and how to upload photos from a smart phone to a computer either directly or through the cloud. Once on the computer, students will learn how to organize files on the computer.
  • Smart Phone Basics: Tuesday, Nov.  5, from 2-4 p.m. in the Computer Training Classroom at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library. Did you know your cell phone can do more than make phone calls? Do your family and friends ask you to send them text messages instead of calling them, but you don’t know how? Do you want to learn how to use your phone to listen to audio books when you are on the go? Join us as we uncover some of the tools your phone has. Students should bring their Android or iPhone to class for a hands-on experience.
  • Internet Basics and Safety: Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 2-4 p.m. in the Computer Training Classroom at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library. Do you know what the Internet is? In this class we will discuss better ways to navigate the Internet and some tips on how to stay safe online.
  • iPad Basics: Monday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon in Meeting Room 3 at Munson Senior Center. In this class we will discuss how to navigate an iPad and use some of the apps. Students will learn how to create bookmarks in Safari and how to use it as an e-reader.  iPads will not be provided so students should bring their own devices ready to use.
  • Your Email Questions Answered: Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 2-4 p.m. in the Computer Training Classroom at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library. Do you have questions on how to better use your email? Do you know how to send attachments? Join us for a discussion about emails. Your wildest email questions will be answered.
  • Social Media: Monday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon in Meeting Room 3 at the Munson Senior Center. Join us for a discussion on what Social Media is and how to use some of the more popular apps. We will also talk about how to stay safe while using Social Media.
  • Social Media: Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 2-4 p.m. in the Computer Training Classroom at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library. Join us for a discussion on what Social Media is and how to use some of the more popular apps. We will also talk about how to stay safe while using Social Media.
