The City of Las Cruces has extended the deadline for accepting applications for its Oversight Committee.

The deadline to submit applications has been extended to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024. Applications are available on the City’s Website.

The Oversight Committee is a management advisory committee and not a public board. City Council approved the creation of the Oversight Committee in November 2018 to continue the City’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

The committee assists the City in reviewing internal audit and inspector general activities at each committee meeting to assist in promoting economy and efficiency, improve operations, and deter and identify waste, fraud and abuse of government resources.

The committee may provide recommendations for priorities and potential areas for investigations and internal audits to the City Auditor and Inspector General. The Committee may also lend advice to the City Auditor or Inspector General regarding technical issues that may arise.

The Oversight Committee consists of three members who are city residents and who are not employed by the City, or in a direct contractual relationship with the City. All three positions are vacant at this time.

At least one committee member shall have a background as an accountant, auditor or inspector general; one member shall have law enforcement or a legal background; and one committee member shall have experience or background in professional management or business. Committee members serve on staggered three-year terms which begin October 1 of each year.

The Oversight Committee usually meets monthly but may also be asked to meet upon the call of the chair or a majority of members. This is a volunteer position with no compensation for service. Voting members may not serve on other City boards, commissions or task forces.

For more information, contact the City Auditor’s Office at (575) 541-2247.
