Seven members of the swift water rescue team

The Las Cruces Fire Department sent a five-person Swift Water Rescue Team and a two-person EMS team to Roswell, N.M., after torrential rains caused flash flooding over the weekend.

Both teams left about 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, and arrived in Roswell at 2 p.m. The Swift Water Rescue Team, part of LCFD’s Technical Rescue Team, was deployed Sunday evening and was assigned to search areas of concern.

The Swift Water Rescue Team includes Battalion Chief Jeremiah Lay, Lt. Daniel Eckhart, Driver Operator/Paramedic Nathan Tracey and Firefighter Paramedics Juan Joseph “YT” Ytuarte and Tyler Aguirre. The EMS team includes Driver Operator/Paramedic James VonSchriltz and Advanced EMT Ariana Reyes.

Both teams are expected to return to Las Cruces no later than Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue, based in Las Cruces, also sent a specialized team to Roswell.
