Christmas tree with mittens and scarfs

Las Cruces Public Libraries locations are accepting new or gently used items to donate to local shelters now through December 21, 2024. For the past four years, the Las Cruces Public Libraries’ Mitten Tree project has received more than 2,000 items donated to help those in need.

Library staff encourage patrons to bring new or gently used hats, mittens, scarves, socks, jackets, coats, sweaters, blankets, unopened toiletries, and beauty products for children, teens, and adults to any Las Cruces Public Library location. Items can be placed on the tree at our Thomas Branigan Memorial Branch or become part of different festive displays at our Sage and Munson Branches. The most requested items at shelters are socks and underwear.

Las Cruces Public Libraries will donate the items to La Casa, Gospel Rescue Mission, Community of Hope, and other community partners after the collection period ends on December 20.

For information, contact Elizabeth Puckett, Outreach and Marketing Librarian at (575) 777-0874 or by email [email protected]
