Youth speaking with police officers

Attention high school students! Would you like to know what makes our city tick? If you’re curious about the various City departments and how they impact your daily life, here’s your chance to dive deep into the inner workings of the City of Las Cruces and discover the roles that different City departments play in shaping our community.

We are thrilled to invite all high school students ages 14-18 to our Developing Youth Leaders Academy. This unique event offers you a behind-the-scenes look at how our city operates and provides an opportunity to meet the dedicated professionals who make it all happen.

The Developing Youth Leaders Academy will take place from 1 – 4 p.m. September 23 – 27, 2024. You can register by visiting the Hot Topic link on the City of Las Cruces website or click here.

Highlights of the week include:

Interactive tours: Explore various City departments including Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and the Police and Fire Departments.

Hands-on Activities: Participate in engaging activities designed to show you the day-to-day functions and challenges of city operations.

Meet the Experts: Engage in Q&A sessions with City staff and department heads to gain insights into their roles and career paths.

Career Exploration: Learn about potential career opportunities within local government and how you can get involved.

Whether you’re interested in protecting our city, providing and protecting important city resources, providing fun and educational activities to our residents, or simply curious about how your city runs, Developing Youth Leaders Academy promises to be both educational and inspiring. Don’t miss the chance to broaden your understanding of civic life and perhaps even spark a passion for a future career in public service.
