The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department will host a free family event, the Mother’s Day Concert, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Plaza de Las Cruces, located at 100 N. Main Street.

Residents are invited to celebrate mothers in the community with live music by Darren Cordova y Calor.

Darren Cordova y Calor swept the 2015 New Mexico Hispanic Music Awards, winning Male Vocalist, Song of the Year, Band of the Year, CD of the Year, and Traditional Ranchera Song of the Year. The Dixon, New Mexico-born Cordova first hit the music scene in 1989 with the group Los Cordova’s, which featured him, his brothers, and his father.

In 1993, he formed Darren Cordova y Calor. The group became a household name in the Spanish music scene, winning numerous New Mexico Hispano Music Awards during its 26-year run. They are known for hits such as Mi Amigo, Cantinero, and Que Levante la Mano.

The public is invited to enjoy this free concert, which will feature live music and dancing. Attendees are welcome to bring their mothers, families, and chairs. Food trucks will be at the Plaza.

This concert marks the beginning of the City’s live music season, continuing with the Mayor’s Jazz Fest on May 25, kicking off the Parks and Recreation Department’s Music in the Park Series. The popular Music in the Park Series will feature performances by local and regional acts every Sunday beginning Memorial Day weekend and continuing through August. Artists and locations will be announced soon.
